Delhi: Dy CM Manish Sisodia Approves Laying Of Sewer Lines In Three Villages, Including Two Illegal In Mundka

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia approved a project to establish sewer lines in three villages, including two illegal colonies in Mundka.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia approved a project on Saturday to build sewer lines in three villages, including two illegal colonies in Mundka, according to an official statement.

In addition, two sewer treatment plants (STPs) with capacities of 2 MLD and 6 MLD, as well as two sewage pumping stations with capacities of 15 MLD and 6 MLD, will be built in Mundka, the statement said.

These upgrades will benefit 45,000 people in the Mundka assembly constituency and are expected to cost Rs 146.36 crore, according to the statement.

The emphasis will be on recycling and reusing STP-treated water. Thousands of individuals will be relieved of the problem of overflowing sewers, Sisodia said, news agency PTI reported.

"We are working relentlessly to connect all unauthorised Delhi colonies to the sewer network, improve sewerage management, and clean the Yamuna," he said, as stated in the report.

In Delhi, there are 1,799 unauthorised colonies. 725 of these have been connected to the sewer network, with work continuing in the remaining 573.

Sewage from illegal colonies that are not connected to the sewer network flows directly into the Yamuna.

The Delhi government has stated that the Yamuna will be cleaned to bathing standards by February 2025.

If the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), or the quantity of oxygen required for microbial digestion of organic compounds in water, is less than 3 milligrammes per litre and the dissolved oxygen is greater than 5 milligrammes per litre, the river is suitable for bathing.

L-G Has No Right To Overturn Decisions Of CM: Manish Sisodia

Following the removal of Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Jasmine Shah and AAP MP ND Gupta's son, Naveen ND Gupta, from the position of 'Government Nominees' on the Board of Private DISCOMS by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia slammed the Governor for "illegally overturning" an elected government decision.

"The L-G has once again defied the Constitution and the Supreme Court by illegally overturning a decision of the elected government of Delhi," Sisodia said. The L-G improperly used the power of 'difference of opinion' to reverse the Delhi Government's cabinet decision on the appointment of professional directors in power DISCOMS four years ago, he said.

Defining the procedure for applying 'difference of opinion,' he stated that it is written in the laws that if the L-G has a different opinion on any matter decided by the concerned Minister, the L-G must call the Minister and discuss the matter, as well as request that the matter be discussed within the Cabinet. If the Cabinet is also unwilling to reverse its decision, the L-G might notify the Centre of a "difference of opinion" between the cabinet and the L-G. He does not have the authority to mention a 'difference of opinion' in any matter prior to following this procedure. He is carrying out his commands illegally by threatening officials and disregarding the Constitution and Supreme Court rulings."
