Delhi CM Kejriwal Chairs Meet Amid Rising Dengue Cases In City Due To Heavy Rain

Amid rising dengue cases in the national capital following heavy rainfall and flood situation in the city, CM Arvind Kejriwal on Friday chaired a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat. The meeting is being attended by Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj and Mayor Shelly Oberoi. As monsoon rains continue to batter the city, the incidence of dengue and malaria has spiked, affecting the health and well-being of several residents. The meeting aims to devise a comprehensive strategy to combat the rising dengue cases in the city.
Over the last two weeks, Delhi has witnessed 51 cases of dengue alone, raising serious concerns among health authorities, as reported by the news agency ANI. On July 19, the Delhi Government's Department of Drug Control released a warning stressing the rise in vector-borne illnesses in the nation's capital brought on by the rainy season. "Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Diclofenac group of medicines may be restricted to be sold on a prescription of a Registered Medical Practitioner only," the advice stated, as quoted by ANI.
Prior to this, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi visited many hospitals in the capital city on July 17 and gave the sanitation department instructions to conduct a cleanliness blitz and reduce the risk of infectious diseases in flood-affected areas.
Meanwhile, the Yamuna river in Delhi flowed above the danger mark of 205.33 metres on Thursday, though it started receding slowly in the evening, according to the Central Water Commission, as reported by PTI. The water level at the Old Railway Bridge has been hovering around the danger mark after reaching an all-time high of 208.66 metres on July 13. It breached the threshold again on Wednesday following heavy rain in parts of the national capital, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
According to the Central Water Commission, the level at the Old Railway Bridge stood at 205.99 metres at 9 pm and is expected to reach 205.65 metres by 4 am, PTI reported. The flow rate at the Yamunanagar-located Hathnikund barrage oscillated between 28,000 and 41,000 cusecs on Thursday.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated heavy to very heavy rain in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi till July 29. The ongoing relief and rehabilitation work in the flood-affected low-lying areas of the national capital has been affected due to the intermittent rain keeping the Yamuna's water level close to the danger mark.
