Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to contest Delhi Mayor and Deputy Mayor Elections. BJP candidates for MCD Mayor Election Shikha Rai and for Deputy Mayor, Soni Pandey filed nomination at Civic centre on Tuesday.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said that Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi approved April 26 as the date for the election of the new Mayor of The Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Shelly Oberoi completed her 38-day tenure at the Mayoral post on March 31. As per the norms, the poll process for electing a new mayor needs to be completed before April 30.

Earlier the year, Shelly Oberoi was elected mayor of Delhi in the fourth attempt after much ruckus between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party. The previous three attempts to elect the Mayor failed due to disruptions by the AAP and the BJP. They met for the first time on January 6, second on January 24 and last on February 6. In December last year, the AAP won 134 seats out of 250.

The last three attempts to elect the Mayor failed due to the political bickering between the Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party. They met for the first time on January 6, second on January 24 and last on February 6. The municipal elections in Delhi were held on December 4 and the results were announced on December 7. Aam Aadmi Party won 134 seats out of 250.
