Unidentified assailants looted a tempo filled with cigarettes worth about Rs 30 lakhs near Delhi's Signature Bridge on Monday. According to the sources, the tempo was going to Model Town from Ghaziabad. “When the tempo reached near Signature Bridge around five men robbed the tempo and fled. A PCR call was made about the incident and a case was registered in Timarpur. Police Station,” a police officer told ANI. Police further mentioned that two people were arrested and cigarettes were recovered from them. Search for the remaining accused is underway, reported ANI.


As per the Times of India, law enforcement authorities are scanning and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby spots to gather potential leads and clues. "We have identified a few suspects in the case and they are being questioned," the officer said. The role of insiders in the case is also under investigation.






In another incident in March this year, Customs officials seized 10 bags containing 1244 cartons of super slim cigarettes worth ₹29.5 lahks during their routine checking at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport in Amritsar.


2,60,400 pieces of ESSE Golden Leaf brand (Made in Korea) were transported in a Spice Jet SG 56 flight from Dubai on March 5. Hindustan Times quoted a spokesperson of the Customs as saying, “The bags were with airlines staff as rush bags and on finding some suspicious images on scanning, one bag was opened and found containing the super slim imported cigarettes. The airlines' staff informed that two passengers travelled by the same flight previous day on March 4 from Dubai but these bags didn’t arrive with them.” As per reports, the cigarettes were intercepted on arrival and were seized under the Customs Act, 1962.
