New Delhi:  The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday began a door-to-door initiative in Delhi's Shahdara area as a part of its "Jail ka Jawab Vote se" campaign. This campaign aims to garner support for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is presently lodged in Tihar jail, and for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. AAP leaders, led by Delhi convenor Gopal Rai, are set to visit every household in the four Lok Sabha constituencies where the party has fielded its candidates. The campaign kickstarted in Shahdara with Rai being accompanied by the AAP's East Delhi candidate, Kuldeep Kumar.

Delhi CM Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. He is currently lodged in Tihar jail, reported news agency PTI.

However, contesting the upcoming General election in an alliance with the Congress, the AAP has fielded candidates for four seats -- New Delhi, East Delhi, South Delhi, and West Delhi. The Congress is contesting the remaining three seats in the national capital. Polling for the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi will be held on May 25.

Earlier on Sunday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stood united when all the leaders gathered at Jantar Mantar to stage a day-long "collective fast" in opposition to the arrest of their party supremo and Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal.  Similar protests were being held in other states as well as by Indians abroad, as per PTI.

The upcoming General Elections in Delhi are set to take place in a single phase on May 25, 2024, where voters will cast their ballots across the city's 7 Lok Sabha constituencies. The counting of the votes will be done collectively across the nation on June 4, 2024.
