21-Year-Old Patient Attacks Neurosurgeon At Delhi Hospital During Consultation
A 21-year-old patient who was consulting a neurosurgeon in Delhi attack him with a knife during the consultation.
A 21-year-old patient allegedly attacked a senior neurosurgeon with a knife at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi during a consultation meeting in his chamber, police said on Wednesday. The was undergoing treatment under Dr Satnam Singh Chabbra the chairman of neurology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital when the incident took place, police said, as quoted by news agency PTI. The patient had met the surgeon on Tuesday for consultation. The patient has been identified as Rajkumar, a resident of Bihar. According to the report, he suddenly got agitated and attacked the doctor with a knife concealed in his pocket.
However, the hospital authorities intervened on time and prevented any serious injury to the doctor. The patient was overpowered and handed over to police, they said.
A police officer told PTI that the surgeon received a small cut on his thumb in the incident.
He said action under the Prevention of Violence against Doctors, Medical Professionals and Medical Institution Bill, 2018 has been initiated against the patient on the complaint of the surgeon.
A similar incident took place in January in which two doctors at Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College (GMC) in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district were allegedly attacked by a patient.

The patient was carrying a fruit knife and allegedly attacked a resident doctor who was on rounds in the hospital. Upon seeing this, another doctor came to his rescue and was attacked as well. Following this, doctors staged a protest against and raised slogans against the police in the district, reported news agency ANI.
According to the police, the accused Suraj Thakur was mentally unstable and had stabbed himself two days ago. ANI reported that Maharashtra Police arrested the accused on the same night.
