New Delhi: The ongoing investigation in the Mumbai Mira road murder case revealed that the alleged accused Manoj Sane and the victim Saraswati Vaidya were married and not live-in partners, news agency ANI reported the police as saying. According to the police, the three sisters of the 32-year-old victim told them that Manoj and Saraswati were husband and wife and their marriage was kept a secret possibly due to their age difference.
“During the investigation, we have found out that the victim and accused were married and they had informed this to the victim's sisters also, they hid this from the others because of their age difference,” ANI quoted DCP Jayant Bajbale as saying.
Earlier in the day, police found out that the victim, who was an orphan, had told the orphanage that the 56-year-old accused was her maternal uncle.
In a latest development, the accused claimed that Saraswati Vaidya died by suicide on June 3 and he decided to dispose of her body as he was scared that he would be accused of killing her, the police said.
Notably, Manoj is accused of killing Saraswati and chopping her body into pieces before boiling them in a pressure cooker. The murder was discovered by the police after neighbours of the Geeta Akash Deep Building Flat J-704 complained of an unbearable stench.
According to ANI, the accused told the police during his questioning that Saraswati Vaidya died by suicide on June 3. "He was scared that he would be accused of killing her, so he decided to dispose of her body. He told the Police that he chopped her body into pieces and boiled them in a pressure cooker to avoid the stench," Vasai-Virar Police said.
The incident is a reminder of the grisly Delhi murder case, in which call centre employee Shraddha Walkar was murdered and chopped into pieces allegedly by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawala, who was a chef at a hotel. The body parts were then stored in a refrigerator. Every night, Aftab would take out a few pieces and dispose them off in a nearby forest.
