Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly raping a woman on the false promise of marriage, reported PTI. The 35-year-old man met the woman on PUBG and later they became friends. According to the police, the duo then started working together at an event management company in Mumbai, police said, as quoted by PTI. They said that the 33-year-old woman met him at the end of 2020 and later she joined the event management firm.
"The accused established physical relations with the woman after promising marriage. As per the complainant, the man raped her multiple times at various hotels till January 2023 and also shot videos of the act," the official said, as quoted by PTI.
As per the complaint, the man threatened her that he would release the video clips on social media if she refused to maintain physical relations.
"As he refused to marry her, the woman approached the police following which an FIR was registered under sections 376 (Punishment for rape), 376 (n) (2) (physical relations on promise to marry), and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal code," the official was further quoted as saying by PTI. Further probe into the matter is underway.
On Friday, a 19-year-old man was arrested by the police for allegedly raping and murdering a six-year-old boy in a village in Dharmapuri district on Wednesday. After the crime, which reportedly took place on July 16, the man dumped the body of the boy in an overhead tank.
According to a report in Times of India, the crime came to light after the parents of the boy filed a missing complaint. Based on the complaint, the police started a search and grew suspicious of a relative of the victim. They then nabbed the suspect M Prakash of the same village.
The police quizzed Prakash and during interrogation, Prakash confessed to the crime. When asked about the body, Prakash took them to an unused overhead water tank in the village.
The police found the dumped body of the boy and recovered it.
