Maharashtra: 'Mentally Disturbed' Man Stabs Four Neighbours To Death, One Injured In South Mumbai
A 54-year-old man allegedly stabbed four neighbours to death and injured another in a south Mumbai apartment complex.
A 54-year-old man allegedly stabbed four neighbours to death and injured another at a residential building in south Mumbai on Friday, news agency PTI reported citing police statements.
According to an official, the heinous act occurred around 3.30 pm, at Parvati Mansion on Grant Road, and the accused was quickly apprehended, as stated in the report.
The man's wife and children had left him two months before, and he felt that his neighbours were responsible, it said.
He had been emotionally disturbed since then, and when he saw his neighbours, he rushed to his house, took up a knife, and allegedly stabbed five people from neighbouring families on Friday.
According to the report, the injured were rushed to a private hospital in Girgaum and the civic-run Nair hospital, where a couple, Jayendra and Neela Mistry, and two other women died during treatment. Another man was being treated.
Following the incident, the accused barricaded himself inside a building room.
He refused to come out when police arrived but yielded when they threatened to "break the door and hit" him, as per the report.
Authorities apprehended him and recovered the knife used in the crime.
He allegedly confessed to the crime while telling officials that he was upset because his family members had abandoned him.
Despite being plainly psychologically disturbed, he was not receiving medical treatment, the official said, according to the report.
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the D B Marg police station under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code, and an investigation is underway, the report added.
