New Delhi: A 28-year-old woman died days after she was allegedly set on fire by her live-in partner in northwest Delhi’s Aman Vihar, PTI reported citing police. The accused set her on fire after a dispute over drugs.
The incident came to light on February 11 when the police received information regarding the admission of a woman with burn injuries in SGM Hospital. When the police reached the hospital, the woman was found unfit to record her statement, they said as quoted by PTI.
She was then shifted to Safdarjung Hospital and then to AIIMS Trauma Centre for further treatment, police said.
The woman was unfit to record a statement due to her critical condition. On Monday, she died at the hospital and the post-mortem was conducted, a senior officer said, the PTI report mentioned.
The victim was later identified as a resident of Balbir Vihar in northwest Delhi and worked as a labourer in a footwear factory. As per the report, a senior police official said that the woman was married and had left her husband. He added that she had been living with the accused Mohit for the past six years.
Police said that the victim had two children, one from her marriage and one with Mohit. They added that a case of murder has been registered at the Aman Vihar police station on the basis of the victim’s family members' statement.
In the complaint, the family has alleged that the woman got into an argument with Mohit on the night of February 10 after she found him taking drugs at his friend's place, the senior officer said.
Police said that the accused allegedly poured 'tarpin oil' over her and set her on fire. They added that Mohit has been detained and further investigation is underway.
