Muzaffarpur jobs scandal: A jobs scandal has come to the fore in Bihar's Muzaffarpur wherein girls would be lured with fake promises of jobs and then sexually assaulted.

A jobs scandal in Bihar's Muzaffarpur has shocked the nation. A purported video of women being assaulted in a room has now gone viral. Reacting to the scandal, RJD MP Bhai Virendra said a handful of politicians were supplying girls in Bihar, and that this scandal was linked to them. He said this will continue if such people are not cornered.

The matter came to the fore when one of the women approached the police. The complainant from Chapra filed a case at the Ahiyapur police station. So far, nine persons have been booked in the case, according to a report in The Indian Express. 

What Is The Muzaffarpur Jobs Scandal?

The case of rape of several girls on the pretext of giving them jobs came to light in Muzaffarpur on Monday, June 17. The case was reported from the Ahiyapur area of ​​the district, where several girls were allegedly held hostage. According to reports, their "captors" lured the women with promises of jobs at a call centre, but once they moved out of their homes, they were confined to a room, thrashed, and sexually exploited.

A video of the assault surfaced on Monday, in which a women can even be seen brutally thrashed with a belt.

The survivor told the police that she got connected to an organisation in 2022 through a Facebook post that was offering jobs to women. She applied for the job and got "selected". The organisation has now turned out to have been running operations with fake documents, reported The Indian Express.

After her selection, the complainant was asked to pay Rs 20,000 for "training". After depositing the amount, she was accommodated in a room under the Ahiyapur police station area along with other girls. When she did not get any salary even after three months, she took up the matter with an "official" of the organisation, who told her that she would be paid in full and even more, if she could bring 50 girls to the "call centre".

Muzaffarpur Survivor Forced To Marry 'CMD'

The complainant said she and the other girls were later moved from Ahiyapur to Hajipur. Soon, the accused started living with the girls and began to assault them sexually. On refusal to give in to their demands, the girls would be beaten up.

The complainant said she was forced to "marry" Tilak Singh, an accused who posed as the 'CMD (chairman and managing director)' of the company. Other girls were also forced to "marry" the other accused. During her stay in Hajipur, Tilak Singh allegedly forced himself on her. She told the police that she soon became pregnant, but was forced to undergo an abortion.

The victim said when she insisted on going to her mother's house, she was thrashed. By this time, she had realised that there was no job coming her way and that she had fallen victim to a fraud. She somehow managed to escape and file a complaint. According to the IE report, the police were initially not accepting her complaint.

Police On Muzaffarpur Jobs Scandal

Muzaffarpur SDPO Vinita Sinha was quoted by The Indian Express as saying that an investigation would be launched into why the police did not accept her complaint in the first instance. She said: "It has come to our knowledge that a company was running a fake call centre in which women were being cheated by alluring them. In this regard, an FIR was registered on June 9. The litigant's statement has been recorded. The case is under further investigation, further action will be taken."

What Bihar Opposition Is Saying

RJD leader Bhai Virendra said: "This will always keep happening. We have a few political people here who indulge in supplying (girls), they sometimes become MPs, sometimes become Bihar ministers. Their work is to supply and have such misbehaviour with women...All of that happens at their behest...Who makes fake companies? The same people who go to Rajya Sabha, who become Bihar ministers...When the grip over such people is tightened, they will disclose things."
