Family Names Boyfriend, Says He Killed 18-Yr-Old After Raping Her
The family of the deceased has named her boyfriend as the suspect, accusing him of raping her and then pouring acid on her, before burning her to death. They had reported the woman, an 18-year-old student of Class 12, missing since Thursday evening.
The family members said the crime bore a semblence to the recent RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case that led to large-scale protests and demonstrations by doctors in Kolkata and elsewhere.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Krishnanagar, Sanjay Mit Kumar Makwana, meanwhile, said the young woman was around 20 to 22 years old. Another officer said the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the PTI report said, the incident led to tension in the area, with members from opposition CPI(M) and Congress parties staging protest in front of the Kotwali police station. Alleging that the woman had been raped and murdered, they demanded that the post-mortem be conducted in the presence of a magistrate.
