Pendra Marwahi: A major train accident occurred on the Bilaspur-Katni rail route Tuesday, as a coal-laden freight train derailed near the Bhanwartank Railway Station. The derailment overturned 17 wagons and the engine, causing extensive damage to the railway infrastructure, while no casualties were reported in the incident. Rescue teams from the railway department, along with local police, swiftly reached the site and have started clearing operations. Authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage and restore traffic as soon as possible.
The mishap disrupted overhead electric wires and signal poles, leaving train traffic on both the up and down routes completely halted. The train was en route from Bilaspur to Katni when the accident took place.
According to PTI, the accident has disrupted the movement of passenger trains, including the Puri-Yognagri Rishikesh Utkal Express and Durg-MCTM (Udhampur) Express, which have been diverted.
Negligence Case Registered Over Worker’s Death At Bullet Train Casting Yard
In another update, a case of alleged negligence has been registered more than two months after the tragic death of a worker at a casting yard for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, police said on Tuesday.
The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at Shil-Daighar police station under Section 106(1) (death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused, Mohammad Sarvar Sahid (28), is yet to be arrested, PTI quoting officials reported.
The victim, Santram Sukhdeo Singh (30), died on September 16 after being caught in a concrete mixer machine at the project’s casting yard in Padle village, Thane district.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the operator failed to take necessary precautions before starting the machine, leading to the fatal accident.
Authorities have stated that further investigations are underway to determine the extent of negligence and accountability in the incident.
