Sonipat: Three people were killed and nine others injured on Saturday in an explosion at a house in Sonipat's Ridhau village of Kharkhoda in Haryana. According to the police, the place was being used as an illegal firecracker unit. The injured have been admitted to PGIMS Hospital in Rohtak. A probe has been launched into the matter.


Sonipat ACP Jeet Singh said that the police team found materials used in making firecrackers when they searched the spot. The owner of the property has also been rounded up.


"Information was regarding a blast in a house and we have found material used in firecrackers from the spot. Some people said a cylinder exploded. The FSL team has been called. 3 bodies have been recovered and 7 injured admitted to hospital. The house owner has been rounded up. Investigation is underway," ACP Singh said.






Some of the family members and workers were present at the site when the blast happened at the factory, police officer told news agency PTI. The officer also said that the deceased include two women and a child.


Although the cause of the fire that led to the blast is being investigated, police believe that the chemical used in preparing firecrackers appeared to have caught fire.

Earlier today, a fire broke out at a medicine manufacturing unit in Parwanoo area in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district. No casualties or injuries were reported in the accident.


The blaze erupted on Saturday morning in the factory of Morepen Laboratories, located in Sector 2, PTI reported.


Workers ran to save their lives as fire began spreading from the lower stories of the building. The local fire department was informed, following which the flames were doused and prevented from spreading further.
