Delhi CM-designate Rekha Gupta on Wednesday evening met Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena and staked claim to form the BJP government in the national capital after being named as leader of Delhi BJP legislative party.


Gupta will take oath as Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday (February 20). Rekha Gupta was chosen as the Leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly at the BJP legislature party meeting.


Gupta was accompanied by a delegation of BJP leaders, including Ravi Shankar Prasad, OP Dhankar and Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva. She and her Cabinet ministers will take the oath of office at the Ramlila Ground on Thursday. She will be the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit and Atishi.


"Leader of the BJP Legislative Party in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Smt Rekha Gupta called on Hon’ble LG, Shri V. K. Saxena at Raj Niwas and staked her claim to form the new Government of NCT of Delhi. Hon’ble LG accepted the claim and invited her to form the new government," LG Saxena said in a post on X.






After taking the oath, she will be the second incumbent woman chief minister of the country along with Mamata Banerjee. Also, she will be the only woman chief minister among the states being ruled by the BJP at present. There was no official word from the party whether there would be a deputy chief minister in the BJP government. Party sources said representation will given to all communities in the Delhi cabinet.
