An assistant sub-inspector died while six others were injured after the car they were travelling in, part of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma's carcade, met with an accident in Jaipur's Jagatpura area.

The incident took place when the CM was on his way to attend a Laghu Udyog Bharti event where Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was to be the chief guest.

Five police personnel and two civilians were hurt in the collision between the escort vehicle and a taxi near Akshaya Patra Chauraha on Jagatpura road, reported the Times of India.

CM Sharma took to X expressing condolence on the death of ASI Surendra Singh.

"The incident of death of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shri Surendra ji and injuries to other citizens in an unfortunate vehicle accident in Jaipur today is extremely sad," he said in the post.

"In this moment of immense grief, our sensitive government stands with the family of the deceased and the injured. After this accident, the concerned officials have been directed to ensure proper medical treatment of the injured," he added.

Following the accident, the CM had rushed a critically wounded individual to the hospital in his vehicle while another injured person was also admitted to the hospital.

According to Station House Officer (SHO) Arun Kumar at Ramnagaria police station, the accident took place when a vehicle approaching from the wrong direction struck the escort vehicle in the chief minister's carcade.

ASI Singh, who was managing traffic at the intersection, succumbed to a critical head injury during the treatment. The accident occurred when a taxi ignored the police personnel's signals and entered from the wrong side. The car collided with the escort vehicle and both the vehicles were badly damaged.

CM Sharma visited the injured persons at the hospital to check on their condition and cancelled his attendance at the scheduled event.
