Three youths in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit district fed poison to a class 5 girl while she was on her way to school in the Jehanabad area, said the police.

Anshika (13), the daughter of Ramautar from Devipura village in the Gajraula area was attacked at around 9 am near JMB College, reported the victim's uncle, Ramgopal who is a resident of Suswar village, said the police.

The three youths who were on a motorcycle, stopped the girl on the road and forced her to consume a poisonous substance before fleeing, the cops said.

City Circle Officer Deepak Chaturvedi said that the incident appears to be linked to a land dispute. Information was received on November 8 that a girl had been admitted to a hospital in a poisoned state, the CO said.

The victim's grandfather said that the girl was going to school as usual at around 8:30 a.m. when the youths on a motorcycle stopped her and fed her position.

The school principal and the grandfather rushed the girl to a hospital, as per the police official.

Chaturvedi further said that the victim told her grandfather that the men belonged to her aunt's village adding that there had been a land dispute between the two families. A case has been lodged based on the complaint by the victim's father.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Avinash Pande said evidence is being gathered based on CCTV footage and surveillance data. Four police teams have been formed, and action will be taken against the accused if the incident is verified," he added.

The girl was admitted to a private hospital in a critical state but the doctors have since reported her condition to be stable, as per the police.
