Mumbai Youth Dies After 17-Year-Old Teenager Driving SUV In 'Wrong Direction' Rams His Two-Wheeler

A 24-year-old milk vendor died in Mumbai after a speeding SUV driven by a 17-year-old boy hit his bike. The minor was detained for questioning and the SUV owner and his son were also booked.

Mumbai News: A 24-year-old milk vendor died in Mumbai's Goregaon area after a speeding SUV driven by a teenage boy knocked down his two-wheeler on Thursday. The SUV, driven by a 17-year-old teenager, was allegedly going in the wrong direction when it hit the victim. Navin Vaishnaw's two-wheeler. 

Police have detained the minor driving the SVU involved in the accident. "As the accused driver is 17 years old, a case was also registered against the SUV owner Iqbal Jivani (48) and his son Mohammed Faz Iqbal Jivani (21)," news agency PTI reported quoting a police official.

The accused is the friend of the SUV owner’s son, who was also reportedly present in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The teenage driver tried to flee from the accident site, but he had sustained injuries and was caught by police.

As per the police, Vaishnav, a Malad resident, was heading towards Andheri for milk distribution in the early hours of Thursday, when he was hit by a Mahindra Scorpio on Aarey Road in Goregaon (East). 

According to police, 24-year-old milk vendor Navin Vaishnav, a Malad resident, was heading to Andheri to sell milk Thursday early morning, when a speeding Mahindra Scorpio, coming from the wrong direction, hit his two-wheeler on Aarey Road in Goregaon (East). After hitting the bike, the SUV crashed into an electric pole and stopped.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. Based on his uncle's complaint, Vanrai police detained the minor driver of the SUV, according to a report by Indian Express. 

The minor boy was detained for questioning and would be reportedly produced before the child welfare committee. Police were also probing if the accused had partied with his friends before the accident. "His blood samples were sent to a laboratory to ascertain whether he was under the influence of alcohol, the official said.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered under sections 105, 106(1), 281 of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), sections 119, 177, 3(1), 181, 184, 134(A) and 134(B) of Motors Vehicle Act and section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and further investigation is underway.
