A military couple-- Indian Air Force (IAF) Flight Lieutenant husband and an Army Captain wife-- were found dead some 250 kilometres apart on the same day. Both allegedly died by suicide-- husband in Agra and wife in Delhi, on Tuesday-- with the latter leaving a suicide note requesting joint cremation with her husband, according to the police.
Both, husband Flight Lieutenant Deen Dayal Deep, and his wife Captain Renu Tanwar were posted in Agra. However, Captain Tanwar was visiting Delhi for her mother's treatment on the day of the incident, according to a report by Times of India. The couple reportedly has a love marriage.
Originally from Bihar's Nalanda district, Deep, 32, was posted at Kheria Air Force Station in Agra, while Tanwar, was posted at the military hospital in the same city. The IAF officer's body was found hanging in his quarters in Agra by his colleagues while his wife's body was found at the officers' mess in Delhi Cantt on Tuesday morning.
As per the TOI report, Delhi police have recovered a suicide note near Tanwar's body, in which she asked to be cremated with her husband. However, no suicide note was found at Deep's quarters in Agra, where his body was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a bedsheet.
Deep reportedly had dinner on Monday night, where he is believed to have "cracked jokes" and engaged in conversation with his colleagues, the station staff told police. He bid them good night and returned to his quarters "without showing any signs of distress or worry". When he did not wake up till late morning on Tuesday, staff broke down the door to find him dead.
As per Agra Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mayank Tiwari, the postmortem revealed asphyxiation as the cause of death.
Meanwhile, Delhi police, in its preliminary inquiry, found that Rajasthan native Captain Tanwar, along with her brother Sumit and her mother, Kaushalya, had arrived at the guesthouse on October 14 at 8 pm. The Army officer reportedly took the extreme step while her mother and brother were at AIIMS Delhi.
