Mihir Shah, the accused in the Mumbai hit-and-run case, told police during the questioning that his career was over following the incident, in which he confessed to the crime.


The accused, a son of a Shiv Sena leader, said during the interrogation, “I have made a big mistake, my career is over”.


The Mumbai Police has also alleged that Mihir Shah consumed alcohol at two bars before the incident forced the driver off his seat and started driving himself.

As per the investigation, Mihir Shah consumed too much alcohol on the day of the BMW crash. He first visited a bar in Juhu, where he and his two friends had 12 large pegs of whiskey and then consumed alcohol once again between Borivali and Malad.  


Mihir Shah was arrested on Tuesday by Mumbai Police two days after he rammed his BMW car into a two-wheeler, killing a woman and injuring her husband. 


Preliminary investigations showed that the luxury car driven by Mihir rammed into a two-wheeler from behind in the Worli area on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa (45), who was riding pillion, while her husband Pradeep survived with injuries.


Nakhwa was dragged for around 1.5 km by the speeding car before Mihir pulled it over, swapped the seat with his driver, and fled in another vehicle, according to police.


Mihir Shah admitted to the police he was driving the car at the time of the crash leading to the death of the woman, as per officials. In order to conceal his identity, Shah shaved his beard and trimmed his hair, the official said, adding they were trying to find out if anyone helped him in changing his appearance.


Police sources said Mihir Shah was "heavily drunk... and on a joyride" at the time of the horrific collision, NDTV reported. 


It added that Shah, despite being under the influence of alcohol, was "well aware" of a trapped body, as pedestrians were shouting at him to stop.

Chilling details of the accident captured on CCTV produced by the police in the court on Monday. The video shows Kaveri Nakhwa being dragged by the BMW car for 1.5 kilometres before the car stopped.
 
The accused has been sent to police custody till July 16. He claimed that he had a driving licence, but the police are yet to recover the document. 


All About Mihir Shah


Mihir Shah is the son of Rajesh Shah, a leader of the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra's Palghar district. Rajesh Shah, who owns the car involved in the accident, was arrested along with Bidawat, who was in the car at the time of the incident. 


A Mumbai court granted Rajesh bail on Monday. However, he was removed as deputy leader of Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena on Wednesday amid the controversy.


Mihir studied till 10th standard and did not pursue any further education after his secondary schooling. He joined his father's construction business, which is based in Maharashtra.
