The main accused in the murder of his family with a bounty of Rs 50,000 reward on his head was killed in an encounter with the Meerut Police early Saturday morning. According to the police statement, they tracked Jameel Hussain alias Naeem on Saturday morning which resulted in an encounter. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.
According to a PTI report, Naeem was the prime suspect in the horrific murder of five people— his stepbrother Moin,52, his wife Asma, 45, and their daughters Afsah, 8, Aziza 4, and Adeeba 1—at their residence in Lisari Gate on January 9. The victims were found dead with head injuries.
The bodies of the husband and wife were found wrapped in bedsheets, and the bodies of the three children were stuffed in the storage compartment of a bed at the family's home in the densely populated Suhail Garden neighbourhood in the Lisari Gate police station area.
Soon after the murders, police announced a reward for Naeem and his accomplice, Salman.
Investigations revealed that Naeem, with a history of criminal activities in Delhi and Thane, had frequently changed his name and location to avoid arrest. This crime was carried out due to a dispute over money and property.
CCTV footage was instrumental in tracking the accused. It showed Naeem and Salman barefoot, leaving Sohail Garden with blood-stained clothes and weapons hidden in bags. Although the footage was released to the public, both men initially evaded capture, as per an IANS report.
The police are still on the lookout for Salman. Based on the intelligence report, Naeem was located in Madina Colony on Saturday morning, a police team surrounded the area.
“During the operation, Naeem opened fire on the police. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Naeem was injured and was rushed to the hospital. However, doctors later declared him dead from his injuries," said Meerut Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada.
Tada said that Naeem was also wanted in Delhi and Maharashtra where he is implicated in murder cases.
