In its third grand 'Amrit Snan' at the Maha Kumbh on the occasion of Basant Panchmi, more than 16 lakh devotees took a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam as of 4 AM on Monday.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Maha Kumbh Administration posted, "Millions of pilgrims, saints, yogis, and visitors from around the world gathered at the sacred Triveni Sangam—the confluence of Maa Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati—seeking spiritual purification. They took a holy dip in the sacred waters during the Amrit Snan on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami at the Maha Kumbh Mela."
As per the information, by 4 AM, 16.58 lakh devotees had taken the holy dip, with the overall figure of those who took the dip since January 13 reaching 34.97 crore, information director Shishir said, adding the figure included 10 lakh kalpvasis and 6.58 pilgrims, news agency PTI reported.
Over 33 crore devotees have taken a dip at the Maha Kumbh, as of now. The Uttar Pradesh government is expecting a footfall of around five crore pilgrims on Monday alone.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath posted on X, "Heartiest congratulations to revered saints, religious leaders, all Akharas, Kalpvasis and devotees who earned virtue by taking the holy Amrit bath at the sacred Triveni Sangam on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami in Maha Kumbh-2025, Prayagraj!"
Earlier, Spiritual leader Swami Kailashanand Giri said, as quoted by news agency ANI, "...Today on the occasion of Basant Panchami we offer prayers to Goddess Saraswati. Today is the 'Amrit Snan' on the occasion of Basant Panchami. We will head towards the ghat by 4.30 am...Today is a very holy day..."
As per tradition, the akharas belonging to the three sects—Sanyasi, Bairagi, and Udaseen—are taking their holy dip in a pre-determined sequence, with the first group already immersing in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati.
According to the schedule released by the Kumbh Mela authorities, the Amrit Snan commenced at 4 AM with akharas of the Sanyasi Sect. Leading the sacred procession were Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani, Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara, Sri Taponidhi Panchayati Sri Niranjani Akhara, Sri Panchayati Akhara Anand, Shri Panchdashnam Juna Akhara, Shri Panchdashnam Avahan Akhara, and Shri Panchagni Akharaa.
