Lucknow: 5 Dead, 28 Injured As Building Collapses In Transport Nagar; Rescue Efforts Continue

Lucknow News: A three-story building collapsed killing five. The building, used as a godown, was under construction when the incident occurred.

A three-storey building in Lucknow's Transport Nagar area collapsed on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to 28 others, according to officials. The collapse occurred around 5 pm, and the building, which was being used as a godown, housed a motor workshop and warehouse on the ground floor, a medical godown on the first floor, and a cutlery warehouse on the second floor. The building, constructed approximately four years ago, was undergoing some construction work at the time of the collapse.

Among the deceased are Pankaj Tiwari (40), Dheeraj Gupta (48), Arun Sonkar (28), Raj Kishore (27) and Jasmit Singh (41), news agency PTI reported.

The injured have been transported to Lok Bandhu Hospital for treatment, as reported by the Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner’s office.

Rescue operations are currently underway with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) working to extract those trapped under the rubble. Senior police and administrative officials are present at the site to oversee the efforts. Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar confirmed the ongoing work to locate and rescue survivors.

Lucknow District Magistrate (DM) Suryapal Gangwar visited the hospital where the injured were admitted. "Monitoring is being done at the top level to ensure that the injured get proper treatment. We will ensure that they receive proper treatment," he told news agency ANI.

ADG (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash told the media, “The CM (Yogi Adityanath) took immediate cognisance of this incident and officials have been sent to the spot to facilitate relief and rescue efforts. Officials from NDRF, SDRF, fire services, municipal corporation, electricity department and medical department are engaged in relief and rescue. Total 24 people have been rescued and are undergoing treatment at various hospitals”.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the incident and instructed the district administration officials, SDRF, and NDRF teams to reach the spot and expedite the relief work and immediately take the injured to the hospital for proper treatment. "He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured," the UP Chief Minister's Office stated.

Defence Minister and Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow Rajnath Singh took stock of the situation and said, "The news of the building collapse in Lucknow is extremely distressing. I have spoken to the District Magistrate of Lucknow over the phone to get an update on the situation at the site. The local administration is on the ground carrying out relief and rescue operations and is working to provide all possible assistance to the victims."

"Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed to the scene and are working to extricate the trapped individuals," said Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar. 

Drones are also being utilised to expedite the evacuation process, as reported by ANI.
