A woman allegedly jumped before a running metro train in Kolkata's Chandni Chowk station, affecting rail services in the north-south corridor on Wednesday, an official said. Normal train services were resumed at 11.50 am after the injured woman was pulled from under the train and sent to hospital, the official added.

Metro services were affected in the north-south corridor from 10.54 am after the incident, the official said. Truncated services were being run to Maidan station in the south and up to Girish Park in the north.

This is the second such incident in a week as a man in his forties died after jumping in front of a metro train at Kalighat station last Wednesday. Services on the Dakshineswar-Kavi Subhash corridor (Blue Line) were affected for nearly an hour after the incident. The man jumped before a Kavi Subhash-bound train at 6.20 pm.

The power supply to the third rail had to be cut off, and the train reversed to recover the man's body. He was taken to SSKM Hospital, where he was declared dead. Truncated services were run between Dakshineswar and Maidan, as well as between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) and Kavi Subhash (New Garia) stations.

It took around an hour for the metro services to resume. Another man jumped in front of a train at Sovabazar Sutanuti Station on October 14.

In July, a man jumped on the tracks at the Kalighat station when a Kavi Subhas-bound train was entering the platform. The man died and metro services were disrupted for about an hour.
