A teenager was killed in a fire that broke out in a two-room flat at Nand Lal Bhawan in Kishangarh, Delhi, on Wednesday morning. Two fire engines and three Police Control Room vehicles reached the spot. The fire was brought under control with the joint efforts of the fire department and police. Four persons sustained injuries and had to be hospitalised
According to news agency ANI, three of the injured — Laxmi Mandal (42), Deepak (20), and Anita Mandal (40) — were admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, while another person Sunny Mandal (22) was taken to AIIMS for his critical injuries. The deceased was identified as 16-year-old Akash Mandal.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. Initially, a gas cylinder blast was suspected to have caused the fire but a preliminary probe found the cylinder in the home undamaged.
In a similar incident last week, two persons were charred to death after a fire broke out at a house in Delhi's Bholanath Nagar. The deceased were identified as Shilpi Gupta (42) and her son Pranav Gupta (16). Four other people were injured in the incident and have been admitted to GTB Hospital for treatment. All the deceased and injured people belonged to the same family, according to the police.
Six fire tenders were pressed to service at the spot. The fire on the third floor of the building was doused by the firefighters who discovered the bodies. According to the police, prima facie, the cause of the death of the deceased seemed to be due to asphyxia and forensic experts have been called for further examination. Legal action will be taken accordingly in the matter, the cops said.
The house belonged to Manish Gupta who ran an electric equipment shop at Bhagirath Palace, said the police.
