On Chhatra Parishad Day, Mamata Banerjee's Message To RG Kar Victim's Family

Bengal News: On the founding day of TMC's student wing, Mamata Banerjee expressed condolences to the family of the RG Kar Medical College victim, condemning the rape and murder.

On the foundation day of Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMC), Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had a message for the family of the RG Kar victim's family. Incidentally, the BJP called a 12-hour 'Bangla Bandh' on the day to protest the RG Kar Doctor's rape and murder.

Offering her condolence to the victim's family, Mamata Banerjee said: "Today I dedicate Trinamool Chhatra Parishad Foundation Day to our sister, whom we mourned the tragic loss of at RG Kar Hospital a few days ago. And please, our heartfelt condolences to the family of the sister who was brutally tortured to death and seeking speedy justice, as well as to all the women of all ages across India who have been subjected to such inhumane acts. Sorry."

The trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was raped and murdered on the institution's premises on July

She further said that the youth of the nation have a great social role to play and it was the task of the student society to inspire everyone.

The message came on the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad Foundation Day, just a day after the Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj organised a 'Nabanna Abhijan', demanding Mamata Banerjee's resignation. The Chhatra Parishad claims to be an independent students' organisation, but is reportedly backed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

'Nabanna Abhijan' Turns Violent

The 'Nabanna Abhijan' turned violent and saw stone-pelting by the protesters and the use of water cannons and tear-gas shells by the police. The Trinamool Congress and the BJP traded blames as each blamed the other for the violence. While the TMC claimed that the BJP brought in "outsiders" and instigated the violence, the BJP accused TMC cadres of masquerading as police officers to attack protesting students.

Following the violence, the BJP called for a 'Bangla Bandh' or 'Bengal Shutdown' on Thursday to demand CM Mamata's resignation. The state government, however, said that any action to support the 'Bangla Bandh' will not be permitted and government employees must report to work as usual. Accusing the BJP of trying to defame Bengal and create chaos in the state, the Mamata government also urged the general public to not heed the 'Bangla Bandh' call.
