Gas Leak In Jalandhar: One person was killed on Saturday after ammonia gas leaked at an ice factory near Domoria bridge in Punjab's Jalandhar. The incident took place at around 2 pm. The Jalandhar deputy commissioner has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.

The sub-divisional magistrate has been directed to submit a report on the investigation within 15 days.

Fire tenders and an ambulance rushed to the spot and rescued six people from the factory. Out of them, one was unconcious when he was rescued. Later, he lost his life. The rest five are said to be in stable condition, news agency PTI reported.

Several people near the ice factory complained of suffocation following the ammonia gas leakage. The police have sealed the area and all the traffic has been diverted through the Domoria Bridge. Residents of the area also complained of a strong smell.

According to The Indian Express, the incident occurred when a gas line at the factory malfunctioned, which resulted in the ammonia leakage into the air.

"People started fainting all around, and when we moved closer, we realized gas was leaking from the factory. A few people on bicycles fell to the ground, causing public panic," the report quoted an eyewitness describing the chaotic scene.

SDM Balbir Singh said: "One person was rescued unconscious. He has lost his life. SDM has marked a magisterial inquiry and has asked to file a report within 15 days."
