A fresh war of words erupted between the CMs of Assam and Bengal on Wednesday. The political war between Himanta Biswa Sarma and Mamata Banerjee started when the latter alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to incite violence in Bengal and said that if Bengal burns, Assam and the Northeast won't remain quiet.
"Modi babu, you are trying to ignite flames of violence in Bengal using your party. Remember, if Bengal burns, Assam and Northeast won't remain quiet; neither will UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha or Delhi. We shall shake your position and chair at the Centre," Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said at an event to commemorate the TMC Chhatra Parishad Foundation Day in Kolkata.
Reacting to her remarks, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma slammed her accusing her of employing divisive politics. "Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don't show us red eyes. Don't try to burn India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak the language of division. How dare you threaten Assam? Don't show us your bloodshot eyes. Don't try to set India on fire with your politics of failure," Assam CM Himanta said in a Bengali post on X.

On August 27, a students' march to the state secretariat, 'Nabanna Abhijan', turned violent as protesters clashed with the police in Kolkata and Howrah. On Wednesday, August 28, a 'Bharat Bandh' call by the BJP saw widespread violence as the saffron party's workers clashed with the police and TMC supporters.
