A 30-year-old man allegedly died by suicide inside the Dhoraji police station in the Rajkot district of Gujarat on Sunday afternoon. He was reportedly caught two days earlier while attempting to steal items from a Hanuman temple in Dhoraji, and was at the station for questioning.
The individual, identified as Kamlesh Parmar, a 30-year-old casual labourer from Dhoraji, was found dead in the women’s restroom of the police station around 3.30 pm on Sunday, according to police reports.
“The head constable who was conducting the inquiry noticed that Parmar was missing from his designated spot. He checked the bathroom and discovered Parmar hanging. CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) was administered, and an ambulance was called. As a pulse was detected, he was rushed to a hospital. However, doctors declared him dead,” Ravi Godham, the police inspector (PI) in-charge of Dhoraji police station, told The Indian Express on Monday.

Godham added that Parmar’s death took place two days after he had been apprehended by a group of local residents on Friday. “Sandeep Gohil, a resident of Dhoraji, reported that Parmar had stolen tongs and other items from the temple in the Kadiyavad area,” Godham stated.
“Parmar had a habit of drinking and committing petty theft to purchase liquor. During his questioning by Dhoraji police, he didn’t get to drink and could have taken the extreme step because of this,” the PI claimed.
Parmar Detained Earlier As Well
The PI added that Parmar had been detained on August 28 as well in connection with a theft involving mobile phones and cash. This case was registered at Bhavnath police station in Junagadh.
“We had also seized two mobile phones, believed to be stolen, from him. After that, we handed him over to Bhavnath police station. Apparently, he got bail in that case, returned to Dhoraji and attempted theft in the Hanuman temple,” said Godham.
On Friday, Dhoraji police had handed Parmar over to his maternal uncle, Jayantilal Vinjuda, who reportedly brought him back for questioning on Saturday and Sunday, as instructed. Police noted that Parmar lived alone, as his parents were deceased and he was estranged from his wife.
