Brain-Dead Ghaziabad Woman's Liver And Kidneys Give New Lease Of Life To 3 Patients

Delhi-NCR News: The daughters of a brain-dead woman decided to donate her organs after doctors approached them with a request to help three critically ill patients. The transplants were successful.

Delhi-NCR News: The daughters of a 72-year-old brain-dead woman from Ghaziabad gave three critically ill patients a new lease on life by donating her organs. The organs — one liver and two kidneys — were successfully harvested and transplanted into the three recipients, bringing relief and happiness to the families awaiting a donor.

The patient, a resident of Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, was rushed to Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali, two days ago in an unconscious state. Diagnosed with a massive brain haemorrhage and a poor prognosis, she was declared brain-dead after a thorough evaluation by the hospital's multidisciplinary medical team. Recognising the opportunity to save lives, the hospital team approached her family to discuss organ donation.

Understanding the immense impact their decision could have, the patient’s daughters gave their consent, the hospital said in a statement.

3 Organs, 3 Lives

The harvested organs were allocated based on medical urgency. The liver was transplanted into a 51-year-old man suffering from chronic liver disease, and one kidney was transplanted into a 43-year-old woman battling chronic kidney disease at Max Hospital Vaishali. The second kidney was transported to PSRI Hospital via a Green Corridor, ensuring it reached its destination swiftly.

The surgeries at Max Super Speciality Hospital were led by a team of doctors, including Dr. Subhash Gupta, Dr. Rajesh Dey, Dr. Anant Kumar, and Dr. Neeru P. Aggarwal.

"Such benevolent act of empathy showcases the dire need for awareness about organ donation and how it can impact the lives of many. Families must be encouraged to consider organ donation during moments of grief, as such decisions can empower them to save multiple lives," the hospital said in a press release, adding: "Every pledge to donate organs after brain death represents a legacy of compassion that transcends boundaries and touches lives in profound ways."
