Rs 5,000 Crore Drug Bust: 'Mastermind' Has Congress Links, Say Delhi Police Sources; Congress Reacts

The Special Cell is questioning Goyal for his possible connection with the D Company.

The mastermind behind Delhi's biggest drug bust worth over Rs 5,000 crore allegedly has Congress connections. Sources in Delhi Police's Special Cell said that he admitted to having held office in the Congress's IT Cell. The BJP too has alleged that the Congress is involved in the "drug racket". BJP also asked if the money was brought in for the October 5 Haryana elections.

The seized contraband, 560 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana, were to be distributed in Delhi-NCR ahead of the festive season, the Special Cell of Delhi Police said after arresting four men during a raid at a godown of a publishing house in South Delhi's Mahipalpur on Tuesday.

The mastermind, Tushar Goel, is the son of a prominent businessman in the city and the owner of Tushar Publications, police said.

The Special Cell is questioning Goel for his possible connection with the D Company and also enquiring if the contraband was seized from Dubai. It is also probing if the seizure has a Mumbai connection as a big consignment of drugs was to be sent to Mumbai. A receiver named Bharat had come from Mumbai to Delhi to receive it, police said.

Goel claimed during interrogation that he has been the chairman of the RTI cell of Delhi Pradesh Congress till 2022, Delhi Police sources said. Photos of the accused with many Congress leaders also surfaced.

The 40-year-old is a graduate of IP University. "He got married in 2008 and started living a lavish life. To maintain the lifestyle, he eventually got in touch with the trafficker and agreed to facilitate his supplies in India," said Additional CP (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwaha.

Deepender Hooda's Number Found On Mastermind's Phone: BJP

BJP on Thursday held a press conference and said he was linked to Congress. BJP has also alleged that Deepender Hooda's number was found on his mobile phone. "Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi appointed him. The Congress party's relations with many organisations are being exposed. With even a little power coming to the Congress, the country can come into serious trouble," the BJP said.

It also linked the drug haul to the October 5 elections in Haryana. "Will Congress come to Haryana? Will there be any drug dealing?"

What Has The Congress Said?

Congress accused the BJP of spreading lies and said Goel was expelled from the party on October 17, 2022, due to anti-party activities. It said he has not been associated with the Congress in any capacity since then. "Rather than spreading half-baked political stories, BJP should trust the Delhi Police to investigate and uncover the truth. We urge the Delhi Police to take strict action against those arrested in the alleged drug bust, rather than allowing it to become a vicious political campaign," the party said in a statement.
