Bengal: Doctor Arrested For Raping Patient After Tranquillising Her, Used Photos To Assault Again, Extort Lakhs
West Bengal News: A doctor in Hasnabad, North 24 Parganas district allegedly raped a female patient after administering a tranquillising serum. He also used photos to blackmail her.
The West Bengal Police on Tuesday arrested a doctor in Hasnabad, North 24 Parganas district, on allegations of raping a female patient after administering a tranquillising serum. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim and her husband, who works in another state.
According to the complaint, the incident took place when the victim visited the doctor for treatment while her husband was away. She alleged that the doctor first tranquillised her and then assaulted her, news agency IANS reported. The doctor allegedly took compromising photographs of her in this state and later used them to blackmail her, threatening to make the images public. Under this coercion, the doctor reportedly raped her on multiple occasions and extorted approximately Rs 4,00,000.
The victim further stated that initially, she was too fearful to disclose the events due to concerns about her social reputation. She also felt isolated, with her husband out of state. However, upon his recent return, she confided in him, and he encouraged her to file a police complaint, IANS reported.
Following the complaint, police detained the accused doctor, who has since been presented in a district court. The public prosecutor has requested a five-day police custody. According to IANS, police sources confirmed that the next steps will involve recording the victim's statement before a judicial magistrate.

Navi Mumbai: 13-Year-Old Girl Raped By Orphanage Personnel; 4 Booked
A 13-year-old orphanage resident was allegedly raped and assaulted by staff members between July and September, police said. The four accused included a woman caretaker who did not report the abuse. Police have registered a case under the POCSO Act and its relevant sections. One of the personnel entered the girl's quarters through a window and raped her in July. Another man similarly assaulted her the previous month. One of the accused also touched the girl inappropriately.
Based on a complaint, a case was registered at Khandeshwar police station under sections 64 (rape) and 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, an official stated, as per PTI.
The woman caretaker was in knowledge of the abuse but did not report it to the police, the official said
Investigations are ongoing, with no arrests made yet.
