Akshya Shinde, the 23-year-old accused of sexually assaulting two minor girls in a school toilet in Maharashtra's Badlapur, was shot dead in police firing on Monday. Police have claimed that he was killed in retaliatory firing after he snatched the gun of a constable and opened fire on the police while being transferred from the Taloja jail to the Thane police station.

Who Was Akshay Shinde?

Two children were allegedly sexually assaulted at a Badlapur school in Maharashtra's Thane district. One of the girls is a little over three years old, the other is aged around 4 years. On Tuesday, protesters stormed the school and vandalised the classrooms and administration offices on the institution's premises.

The incident came to light when the parents of the girls questioned them after they refused to go to school. It came to the fore that a staffer had sexually abused them. The staffer, Akshay Shinde, has now been arrested.

Akshay Shinde used to work as a sweeper at the school.

The 24-year-old was hired by the school, around 50 km from Mumbai, from a cleaning company on a contractual basis on August 1. It came to light on August 14 that he had sexually assaulted two minor girls. The school where this incident took place is a reputable institution in Badlapur. The school imparts education in Marathi and English. The number of students in the school is around 1,200.

How The Badlapur Sexual Assault Case Came To Light

The sexual assault of the two girls came to light on August 14. One of these girls told her grandfather that she was experiencing a burning sensation near her private parts. This girl also told her parents that the same thing was happening with a friend. The girl's parents then called the parents of the other girl and they found out that both girls were reluctant to go to school.

After going deeper into the matter, it came to light that both the girls were being sexually abused.
