On Tuesday, hundreds of protesters took to the streets to demand justice for the two minor girls. The protestors are demanding death penalty for the accused, Akshay Shinde.

Who Is Akshay Shinde?

Two children were allegedly sexually assaulted at a Badlapur school in Maharashtra's Thane district. One of the girls is a little over three years old, the other is aged around 4 years. The incident came to light when the parents of the girls questioned them after they refused to go to school. It came to the fore that a staffer had sexually abused them. The staffer, Akshay Shinde, has now been arrested.

Akshay Shinde used to work as a sweeper at the school.

The 24-year-old was hired by the school, around 50 km from Mumbai, from a cleaning company on a contractual basis on August 1. It came to light on August 14 that he had sexually assaulted two minor girls. The school where this incident took place is a reputable institution in Badlapur. The school imparts education in Marathi and English. The number of students in the school is around 1,200.
