Ahmedabad Teacher Drags Minor By Hair, Slams Head Against Wall, Detained After CCTV Footage Goes Viral

CCTV footage from the classroom showed the teacher pulling the student's hair and slamming him against the wall. He is in police custody and has also been suspended from the school.

Ahmedabad: A student was ruthlessly beaten in front of his classmates by his teacher in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The incident took place at the Madhav Public School in Vatva and was recorded on the CCTV installed in the classroom. Following this, the teacher, Abhishek Patel, who taught Mathematics at the school, was detained and suspended.

In the CCTV footage, Patel can be seen twisting the arm of a student and pulling him by his hair, as he tries to resist. The teacher, however, doesn't stop there and drags the student by his hair before slamming him against the wall on the other side of the classroom. The footage shows the teacher slapping the minor repeatedly with full force before pushing him to the ground.

After the video went viral on the internet, the District Education Officer issued a notice to the school's principal to suspend the teacher. The Vatva police took Patel into their custody and a legal action has been initiated against him.

Despite corporal punishment being illegal in India, it is widely used by teachers to discipline students in schools across the country. The use of corporal punishment was banned in all educational institutions by the Supreme Court in 2000.
