Flying is often considered more comfortable than train, with air travel typically associated with convenience, speed, and status. Therefore, it is intriguing to consider why someone might choose a train journey when they have the means to fly. Recently, an X (formerly Twitter) user, Chirag Deshmukh, had an encounter on a train that made him consider the same thing, and the response surprised him.
He shared this heartwarming story on social media, explaining why a high-earning software developer opted for train travel instead of flying.
In his post, Deshmukh revealed that the developer, an employee of a big company earning an impressive Rs 30 lakh annually, shared a story when asked about his choice. The developer recounted a period of uncertainty following his education, during which he struggled to find a job, much like many new graduates. However, he met a fellow passenger who introduced him to his elder brother during a train journey. This connection led to a referral that ultimately secured his first job.
''Today, I was travelling by train and met a guy who works as a software developer at a big company, earning over 30 lakhs a year. I asked him, "With that kind of money, why aren't you flying instead of taking the train?,” Deshmukh wrote in his post on X.
''He smiled and said, "After college, I had no job and was struggling. One day, while travelling by train, I met a person whose elder brother helped me get a referral that landed me my first job. Since then, I decided to always travel by train—unless it's an emergency,'' he added.
The post has gone viral, prompting numerous responses from people who shared similar experiences.
One user wrote, “I was attending some java training and i didn't have job at that time , the trainer gave a break and in that break got to know some small company is conducting interview and I got my second job for 12k in 2008. you never know how will you get job.”
On a lighter note, another user wrote, “I got referral while eating vada pav and landed a job. Now I have decided I will eat only vada pav for breakfast, lunch, evening snack & dinner. I have also have a cardiologist on standby to perform angio anytime.”
“Ya, train travel is more fun and interactive. You have more freedom, you can move around and be free. I have had amazing conversations with complete strangers in train. Which is not the case in airport, people are busy doing their things,” said a third user.
