Stock Market Holidays In 2023: NSE, BSE Will Remain Closed On These 15 Days

The maximum number of stock market holidays will be in April, while the markets will be operational in February and July with no holidays

The stock market will remain closed for 15 days this year. The secondary market will observe two additional trading holidays in 2023 as compared to last year. It is to be noted that the maximum number of stock market holidays will be in April while the markets will be operational in February and July with no holidays.

Apart from this, the trade does not happen on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Stock market traders can track these holidays and plan their trading schedules accordingly. 

The first holiday of the year will be Republic Day on January 26, and the market will remain open till March 7 when the stock market will remain closed on the occasion of Holi. The bourses will also remain closed for Ram Navami.

April has three holidays including Mahavir Jayanti (April 4), Good Friday (April 7), and Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14) for the equity, equity derivative, and SLB segments, according to the details on BSE.

The stock market will not be transacting on the occasion of Maharashtra Day on May 1 while in June trading will be suspended for Bakri Id celebrations on June 28. In July, both stock exchanges don't have any official holidays.

Trading will not take place on Independence Day i.e. August 15. The bourses will close for Ganesh Chaturthi on September 19 which will be followed by a holiday on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti. The stock markets will remain closed for Dussehra on October 24.

November has two holidays including the provision of muhurat trading on November 12 for Diwali and Laxmi Puja. However, the timings are not yet notified. Diwali Balipratipada will be marked on November 14, followed by Gurunanak Jayanti on November 27. The last stock market holiday will be on December 25 as many mark Christmas.

It is to be noted that trading for the ‘currency derivatives segment’ and ‘NDS-RST and Tri Party Repo’ will be closed for a total of 19 days.  Gudhipadwa (March 22), Buddha Pournima (May 05), Parsi New Year (August 16) and Id-E-Milad (September 28) are the additional trading holidays for this segment.
