Stock Market Holiday: NSE, BSE To Remain Shut On August 15? Details Here

According to an NSE circular last year, the stock market will observe 14 trading holidays in 2024. There will be a single trading holiday in August, and no holiday will be scheduled for September

The Indian stock market will be closed on Thursday, August 15, on the occasion of Independence Day. Both major stock exchanges—the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)—will not conduct any business or trading activities on Thursday. Consequently, trading will remain closed across all segments, including equities, equity derivatives, and the Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segment.

According to a circular released by the NSE last year, the stock market will observe 14 trading holidays in 2024. There will be a single trading holiday in August, and no holiday will be scheduled for September. The next market holiday in 2024 will be on Wednesday, October 2, in observance of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. All market segments will remain shut for Gandhi Jayanti.

Following this, the Indian stock market will be closed on November 1 for Diwali. Another closure will occur on November 15 for Gurunanak Jayanti, which celebrates the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. The last scheduled holiday of the year will be Christmas on December 25, concluding the trading calendar with festive celebrations.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Independence Day holiday, Indian indices closed on a positive note on Wednesday, ending a two-day losing streak. The day's gains were primarily driven by strong buying interest in Information Technology stocks. However, selling pressure in other sectors somewhat offset these gains, trimming the intraday advances. The Sensex settled 149.85 points up, reflecting an increase of 0.19 per cent, finishing at 79,105.88. Similarly, the Nifty rose by 4.80 points, marking a marginal gain of 0.02 per cent, and settled at 24,143.80.
