Shark Tank India judge, Anupam Mittal, once again called out Starbucks. The beverage brand became the centre of attention recently after its CEO, Brian Niccol, shared that he opts to take a flight to travel to the firm’s headquarters in Seattle at least thrice a week.
The executive said that he flies 1,600 km at least three times in a week to commute to the Starbucks headquarters in Seattle, instead of relocating to the region. This sparked a lot of conversation around the environmental effects of such decision.
Reacting to the same, Mittal, in a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, raised questions about the move. “What happened to leading by example?,” he said.
Starbucks recently replaced its CEO Laxman Narasimhan with Niccol, bringing in the latter from Chipotle. The firing came as the beverage maker recorded a drop in sales.
This is not the first time that Mittal has commented on Starbucks’. Earlier last week, the Shaadi.com founder called out the company for selling low-quality beverages and desserts to consumers. In a previous post on X, Mittal said, “Starbucks continued value erosion is inevitable unless they go back to their roots or reinvent their raison d’etre. Right now they are less of a coffee shop and more of a dessert store with criminal levels of disguised sugar making people sick. Probably more toxic than tobacco cos.”
The latest decision of Niccol to fly via private jet instead of relocating attracted criticism from Netizens. One of the users commented on Mittal's post and said, "@Starbucks is leading by example in Hypocrisy!!! They won't increase the payment of the workers but it will be ok to entertain such shitty requests ! Wonder what great graduates school teach offlate!"
