With the festival of Janmashtami starting the week tomorrow, the public is worried if the holiday for the occasion will be marked by the banks in the country also. The holiday list for Indian banks is published by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for every calendar year. This list is followed by banks across the country and includes weekend holidays, national holidays, and festivals.


These holidays vary from state to state, therefore, it is advisable for customers to keep a tab of this list and schedule their banking errands accordingly. 


Are Banks Closed Tomorrow?


As far as Monday, August 26, 2024, is concerned, banks will be observing a holiday in certain regions of the country. The offline branches of the banks would be closed in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chennai, Chandigarh, Gangtok, Dehradun, Hyderabad - Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Jammu, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Patna, Lucknow, Ranchi, Raipur, Shillong, Srinagar, and Shimla. 


While the physical branches of banks in these regions will be closed, the online and internet banking services of all banks will be operational across the country. Customers can also use ATM services uninterrupted.


Any changes or obstructions in these services shall be informed well in advance to the public. Any transactions conducted via cheques will not be available in these regions in light of the bank holiday.

What Is Janmashtami 2024?


Janmashtami, known as Krishna Janmashtami, is a festival celebrated by Hindus in India. It marks the occasion of the birth of Lord Krishna, hailed and worshipped by Hindus across the world. Typically, the festival falls in the month of August.


During the festival, devotees observe fast, sing songs, and reenact their deity’s life through plays called ‘Krishna Leela’. Celebrations last till late night as it is believed that Lord Krishna was born at midnight.
