Ratan Tata’s demise has impacted scores of Indians. The entrepreneur was famous for his philanthropic views and compassionate approach to life. Admiring his personality, Tata Sons Chairperson, N Chandrasekaran, penned a tribute to the icon on Monday and said, “Anybody who met Mr. Tata came away with a story about his humanity, warmth, and dreams for India. There really was no one like him.”

Tata passed away on October 9, aged 86, at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Sharing a glimpse into the industrialist’s personality, Chandrasekaran said that he was ‘someone to be discovered, over time and through experience’.

He shared that Ratan Tata was dedicated to looking after the wellbeing of not just their employees, but also their families. “Across other Group companies, his perspective on employees was uniform. It is something that has shaped a number of our leaders across the Group,” the post read.

The Tata Sons executive shared his experience of renovating Bombay House. He noted that he wanted to renovate the headquarters as they had not been touched since 1924, however,  he was cautioned against doing so and told that Ratan Tata would not appreciate the initiative as the building was considered a ‘temple’.

He finally mentioned the matter to the icon and he enquired if the activity would harm the well being of the dogs who became an integral part of the building. After the renovation was completed, the executive said that Ratan Tata was eager to see the kennel built for the dogs at the site and was extremely pleased with the design for the same.

“Seeing his happiness with the kennel and his priorities was a reminder that while big projects are important, it’s the details that reveal how we think, what we prioritise, and how we are perceived. His joy was confirmation that we had done the right thing,” Chandrasekaran remembered fondly in his post.

“There is so much else to say about who he was, but for now, as I process his absence, this will have to do: His eye received everything clearly, as his mind perceived everything clearly,” he shared.
