New Delhi: In view of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Thursday extended the deadline for filing income-tax returns for financial year 2020-21 (assessment year 2021-22) to September 30, thereby bringing a major relief to the taxpayers


“The Central Board of Direct Taxes, in exercise of its power under section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, provides relaxation…,” said the official statement.

Below are the new Income Tax filing deadlines: 



  • The due date of furnishing return of income for regular taxpayers for the Assessment Year 2021-22 has been extended to September 30 from July 31, 2021

  • Audit Assessees will have time till November 30 to file the IT return. The earlier date to file the IT return was October 31

  • The due date of furnishing Tax Audit Report extended to October 31 from September 30

  • The due date of filing belated/revised return of income extended to January 31, 2022 from December 31, 2021

  • The due date of Transfer Pricing Study Report extended to November 30, 2021

  • SFT Due date extended to June 30, 2021, from May 31, 2021

  • Statement of Reportable Account extended to June 30, 2021, from May 31, 2021

  • TDS Statement for Q4 of FY 2020-21 extended to June 30, 2021, from May 31, 2021

  • Form 16 Issue Date extended to July 15, 2021, from June 15, 2021
