New IT Portal: Finance Ministry Summons Infosys CEO Salil Parekh To Explain Glitches Persisting For Months
The Income Tax department said Parekh has been summoned to explain as to why glitches have not been resolved even after 2.5 months since launch of new e-filing portal.
New Delhi: The Union Finance Ministry has summoned Infosys MD and CEO Salil Parekh on Monday to explain the continuing glitches in the new income tax e-filing portal.
The Income Tax department said Parekh has been summoned to explain as to why glitches have not been resolved even after 2.5 months since launch of new e-filing portal.
The Income Tax department further said the portal itself "is not available" since August 21.
"Ministry of Finance has summoned Sh Salil Parekh, MD&CEO @Infosys on 23/08/2021 to explain to hon'ble FM as to why even after 2.5 months since launch of new e-filing portal, glitches in the portal have not been resolved. In fact, since 21/08/2021 the portal itself is not available," Income Tax India tweeted.
Expressing concern over the issue, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had earlier in June asked Infosys to fix all issues on the new Income Tax portal immediately
The new e-filing portal (http://www.incometax.gov.in) was launched on June 7.
The new income tax e-filing portal, however, had a bumpy start from the day of its launch with many users stating they were having problems accessing it or facing other glitches.
The users, who flagged the issued, often tweeted screenshots of the site and tagged the Finance Minister.
The trouble with the site has also hampered users during e-filing of tax returns, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Earlier in 2019, Infosys was awarded a contract to develop the next-generation income tax filing system to reduce processing time for returns from 63 days to one day and expedite the refunds.
