Share Market Today: The two key equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty, on Saturday opened trading in the special session on a flat note. The S&P BSE Sensex began trading at 73,921.46, marginally up from the previous closing on Friday. As of 9:47 AM, the index stood at 74,029.46, clocking a gain of more than 100 points.


On the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 started trading at 22,512.85 on Saturday, and as the session progressed, the index traded on a flat note, however, remained in green. As of 9:47 AM, the index touched 22,508.40, logging a jump of nearly 50 points.


Stock update


On the 30-share Sensex platform, Nestle, PowerGrid, IndusInd Bank, TCS, and Tata Steel rallied ahead. On the other hand, JSW Steel, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, M&M, and Titan emerged losers.


On the Nifty50 index, JSW Steel clocked the maximum losses, while Nestle led in green with gains of more than 2 per cent. 


In the broader markets, the indices traded higher. The Nifty Smallcap 250 led in green at 0.91 per cent, followed by the Nifty Smallcap 100 and Nifty Next 50 indices, both trading up by 0.85 per cent and 0.82 per cent respectively.


Sectoral update


Sectorally, the Nifty Media index advanced 1.15 per cent, followed by Nifty Realty and Midsmall Healthcare, trading higher by 0.94 per cent and 0.87 per cent respectively.


In the previous session on Friday, the BSE benchmark jumped 253 points to settle at 73,917, on the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 gained 62 points to close at 22,466.


The special session will be conducted in two parts on Saturday. The first session will close at 10 AM, followed by the second session which will be from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The pre-opening hours for the second session will be from 11:15 AM to 11:23 AM on Saturday.


The session is being conducted as part of the exchanges' regular checks to ensure that the market functions uninterrupted and the systems can efficiently navigate emergency situations.
