The Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) on Sunday announced that it is reducing the retail prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) and domestic piped natural gas (PNG) in and around Mumbai. The firm stated that it is lowering the retail price of CNG by Rs 3 per kg and domestic PNG by Rs 2 per SCM in and around the metropolitan city.
After the increase, CNG will be available to the users at Rs 76 per kg, while customers will have to pay Rs 46 per SCM for domestic PNG, in and around Mumbai. The new rates will be effective from midnight of October 1, 2023.
The gas company in it’s statement revealed, “MGL is pleased to announce reduction in CNG price by Rs 3/Kg and Domestic PNG (DPNG) by Rs 2/ SCM in and around Mumbai. The revised MRP of CNG will be Rs 76.00/Kg and Domestic PNG Rs 47.00/SCM effective from midnight of 1st October 2023/ morning of 2nd October 2023,” as reported by Moneycontrol.
The firm stated that this move is aimed at encouraging usage of natural gas amongst consumers. “MGL welcomes the reduction in price of domestically produced High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) Natural Gas by GOI. This reduction will further promote usage of Natural Gas in general and will contribute to increase in consumption of natural gas in domestic and transportation segment in particular,” the firm noted in it’s press release.
The GAIL subsidiary firm also said, “MGL has always been a customer-friendly company, consistently and promptly passing reduction in gas costs to its consumers to promote usage of Natural Gas.”
This is not the first time CNG prices have been reduced in the year. Earlier in February, the gas distribution company slashed CNG prices by Rs 2.5 per kg. Again in April, CNG prices were further cut by Rs 8 per kg. The company also reduced the domestic PNG prices by Rs 5 per SCM in April.
