Government-run oil and gas company Indian Oil Corporation Limited increased the prices of commercial Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG). The new price for the 19kg commercial LPG cylinders has been increased by Rs 209 and will come into effect from October 1, 2023.

The revised price for the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders in Delhi now stands at Rs 1731.50 per cylinder, up from the previous rate of Rs 1522.50 per cylinder. The price for the same in Mumbai increased from Rs 1482 per cylinder to Rs Rs 1684 per cylinder.

Notably, the price for domestic LPG cylinders of 14.2 kg remained unchanged. Domestic LPG cylinders of 14.2 kg stand at Rs 903 per cylinder in New Delhi, and Rs 902 per cylinder in Mumbai.

The cooking gas is typically sold in different pack sizes, depending on the usage. The 5 kg and 14.2 kg cylinders are sold for domestic use, while the 19 kg, 47.5 kg, and 425 kg jumbo cylinders are all meant for industrial and commercial consumption.

This move offsets the earlier relief in prices provided during the last two months. The price for commercial LPG cylinders for the capital was first decreased by Rs 100 in August and further reduced by Rs 158 in September.

Notably, the government earlier last month approved the addition of 75 lakh LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, bringing the total beneficiaries under the scheme to 10.35 crore people. Union Minister Anurag Thakur noted that these additional connections were announced to grant support to women belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society.

This increase in prices comes after an upward movement in crude oil prices. Crude prices have been on the rise in recent weeks owing to supply concerns. Further, the climb in the benchmark Saudi Contract Price (CP) for LPG has also added to the price movements, reported the Economic Times.

Additionally, oil companies have also elevated Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices by over 5 per cent, the report said. This marks the fourth consecutive monthly expansion in jet fuel prices. The latest revision in ATF prices has increased the fuel price in Delhi by Rs 5,779.84 per kilolitre and the new price stands at Rs 118,199.17 per kilolitre.
