The first day of the New Year witnessed a hike in the price of 19 kg commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) raised the price of commercial LPG cylinders on Sunday by Rs 25 across the country, reported news agency ANI.

A 19 kg commercial cylinder will now be sold at Rs 1,769 in Delhi. The new rates have come into effect today. It is to be noted that this increase has been done in the price of commercial gas cylinders while domestic gas cylinders are available at their old rates.

The Congress party reacted to the price hike by taking a swipe at the Modi government: "The first gift of the new year... Commercial gas cylinder has become costlier by Rs 25. This is just the beginning. Happy new year."

The hike is expected to increase the cost of dining out at restaurants, hotels, etc. However, the rates of domestic cylinders remain unchanged and continue to sell at their existing prices.

OMCs usually revise the prices of LPG on the first day of every month. Today, on the first date of the year, there has been a change in the prices of LPG. According to this change, the commercial cylinder has become costlier across the cities.
