If taxpayers fail to verify their returns on time, the return is considered invalid, and they may face the repercussions of not filing ITR under the Income Tax Act of 1961. However, taxpayers may request that the delay in verification be excused by providing a legitimate explanation. They will be allowed to e-verify the return only after submitting such a request. However, the return will be treated as valid only after the condonation request has been approved by the competent Income Tax Authority.
