New Delhi: Former India head of micro-blogging platform Manish Maheshwari, who moved to the United States for a bigger role, has announced his exit from the company to launch his ed-tech startup.
"After close to 3 years, I am leaving Twitter to dedicate myself to #education and #teaching. While it is with a heavy heart that I leave Twitter, I am excited about the impact that can be created globally through education," Maheshwari said in a series of tweets.
"Coming from a very ordinary middle-class background, education has been a cornerstone of my life. Whatever I have achieved is through education. And I see that with technology there is so much more impact you can create by developing the relevant skill set at scale. More so with the Metaverse coming in, you can also create virtually immersive experience. The idea is to leverage the technology to really solve for employability and drive better educational outcomes," he added.
While making the announcement, Maheshwari also said that he was planning to end his journey with Twitter and launch his own start-up for some time now and also said that it had nothing to do with the recent rejig in the company.
Maheshwari's decision to quit Twitter comes days after the company got its new CEO Parag Agrawal after its co-founder Jack Dorsey stepped down from the role.
Maheshwari's departure from India came after Twitter blocked accounts of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several other party leaders for violating platform policies.
Congress has alleged that blocking of accounts of its leaders was done on the behest of the government. Twitter had clarified its action, saying that the rules were enforced judiciously and impartially for everyone on its service.
Maheshwari's new start-up will be reportedly named Invact.
Maheshwari joined Twitter in April 2019 as Managing Director for its India operations and moved into a new role in August this year, based in San Francisco as Senior Director, Revenue Strategy and Operations.
