There are almost 12 bank holidays in December before we ring into the new year 2023. The next month is full of festivities due to which private and public sector banks will remain closed in some cities. Banks will be closed for almost 12 days in December 2022 including second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays.
Banks observe public holidays with some regional holidays depending on the particular state as decided by state governments, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.
There were 10 bank holidays in November including the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays. The RBI has declared bank holidays on December 3, 18, 24, 26, 25, 27, 30, and 31. Apart from this, there are four Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays.
There are eight bank holidays in December month excluding Saturday and Sunday. The central bank divided the holidays into three categories, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. In these three categories – Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act, and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.
Even as banks will remain closed on the above days, online banking activities will continue to function normally. The banks shall remain open on the first and third Saturdays of every month.
